Ursa Major

History

Ursa Major was the first group of Juneau String Ensembles. Started by Guo Hua Xia and several musically talented string players, they met every weekend at a member's house to play for the love of music and improve their chamber music skills. Continuing the dream of playing music for fun and learning, Ursa Major is still together with several of the original members still in. To spread and learn about world culture, Ursa Major took a trip to China in the summer of 2004. They traveled to different cities including Shanghai, Beijing, and Xian. They played in many historic Chinese locations, including the Great Wall, and visited many other places including the Terra cotta Warriors. They also played with a couple of Chinese chamber orchestras. Still playing today, Ursa Major is the oldest group in Juneau String Ensembles.
